Faridkot:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0In view of the continuously increasing heat and the threat of heat wave in Faridkot district of Punjab, the Health Department has started a special campaign to make people aware. During a program organized at the Civil Surgeon office, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Singla released advisory and awareness posters regarding protection from heat wave. On this occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Parvejit Singh Gulati along with many senior officers of the department were present. The Health Department has appealed to the people to take extra precautions during strong sunlight and hot winds.<\/span><\/p>\n

The risk increases when the temperature is above 40 degrees.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Ramandeep Singla explained that a heat wave occurs when temperatures in the plains reach 40 degrees Celsius or higher. He added that extreme heat impacts the body’s temperature-regulating system, potentially leading to heat stroke. He warned that heat stroke can be fatal if not treated promptly. This risk is further exacerbated by persistent sun exposure and dehydration. The department advised people to remain vigilant during the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n

These people are more at risk<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Health Department, newborns, pregnant women, the elderly over 65, laborers, and people with chronic illnesses are most at risk during a heat wave. Doctors said these people should take special precautions during the heat. Dr. Singla added that patients suffering from epilepsy, heart, kidney, and liver diseases should consult a doctor before increasing their water intake. Anyone experiencing any symptoms such as weakness, dizziness, or high fever should seek immediate medical attention.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice to pay special attention to water and food<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

In its advisory, the Health Department has advised people to drink water regularly. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, you should drink water every half hour and carry a water bottle with you when going out. It also recommends consuming seasonal fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and orange. Doctors say these fruits prevent dehydration and provide relief from the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instructions regarding clothing and daily routine<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The Health Department has advised people to wear light-colored, full-sleeved cotton clothing. They are advised to cover their heads with umbrellas, hats, or scarves, and to avoid going barefoot. The department has also urged people to avoid working directly in the intense midday sun. Essential work should be done in the cooler mornings or evenings to avoid the effects of heatstroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Special arrangements in government hospitals<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Singla stated that adequate arrangements have been made in all government hospitals in the district to treat heat stroke patients. Essential medicines and medical facilities are available in the hospitals. He added that the Health Department’s mass media team and field staff are continuously visiting villages and cities to raise awareness.
