New York: The US yoga team will participate in the first World Yogasana Championship to be held in Ahmedabad from June 4 to 8. According to a release from the US Yoga Association (USYA), the US Yoga Sports Federation (USYSF) has prepared this team in collaboration with USYA and World Yogasana. The release said that Balwinder Singh, Founder and President of the US Yoga Association and USYSF, will lead the 11-member US team. The team for the championship to be held in India was selected on the basis of quarterfinal trials in Connecticut in April. The players included in the team are between 10 to 55 years of age and will challenge in various age group events.

Members of the US Yogasana Team visited the Indian Consulate in New York last week before their tour to India and met with Vice Consul General Vishal Harsh. The Consulate wished the athletes success in the championship. Athletes from more than 60 countries are expected to participate in the competition. “This championship will play a significant role in promoting international unity, health, and cultural exchange, and establishing Yogasana as a globally recognized competitive sport,” the release said. Competitors will compete in seven official Yogasana categories, including artistic and rhythmic yoga. Athletes will be evaluated based on strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and precision under globally standardized judging criteria.
